Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited Chula Vista new-home neighborhood Trellis at Windingwalk today to promote “jobs, jobs, jobs” and the expansion of the $10,000 homebuyer tax credit.

During a press conference at the neighborhood under construction by San Diego new home builder Brookfield Homes, Gov. Schwarzenegger included extension of the $10,000 homebuyer tax credit as an example of the urgent need to pass the California jobs initiative now.

“With all the big challenges ahead this year, the most important is to bring the economy back, to bring jobs back. Jobs, jobs, jobs, that’s what this is all about,” said Gov. Schwarzenegger, backed by supporters including Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, Assemblyman Marty Block, Supervisor Greg Cox, San Diego Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ruben Barrales, and representatives of the building industry, the Carpenters’ Union and Realtors. “We need to get people out buying homes so we can build more homes and create more jobs.”

“The $10,000 tax credit for homebuyers will help get people off the fence and into sales offices to buy homes and be part of the American dream,” Gov. Schwarzenegger continued. “Jobs are part of the American dream, too.”

“The governor’s message today is that we need to act now,” said Steve Doyle, president of Brookfield Homes San Diego/Riverside division. “The Legislature needs to stand with the governor and approve the proposed jobs initiative in order to sustain an economic recovery. Especially with the federal tax credit expiring in April, the extension of California’s tax credit is important to the homebuilding industry and to those trying to buy a home.”
