Quality installation of insulation, which is more labor intensive and prevents air pockets, adds to the energy efficiency of the homes at Rockrose at The Foothills in Carlsbad by Brookfield Homes.

Featuring six areas of eco-savvy concentration, the Carlsbad new homes at Rockrose at The Foothills surpass state standards for energy efficiency by at least 35 percent and make new home builder Brookfield Homes the first in San Diego with production homes at this level of efficiency.

“As a participant of the Advanced Home Program, Brookfield Homes has been told by SDG&E that we are the first San Diego builder with production homes at this efficiency level,” said Lora Heramb, vice president of sales and marketing for Brookfield Homes. “This is a proud accomplishment for our team here and demonstrates a strong commitment to producing a sustainable, energy efficient home.”

The single-family detached homes at Rockrose have increased efficiencies in six different ways: energy conservation, water conservation, waste reduction, indoor air quality, sustainable building materials / wood conservation, and renewable energy / solar power (optional). Additional eco-savvy options will be available at affordable prices, according to the builder.

“Consumers are taking a closer look at their energy usage and trying to find ways to cut back,” Heramb continued. “We took a close look as well and took a measured approach to increasing efficiency. We looked at typical energy usage, like water heating, air conditioning, lighting and appliances, and employed quality building practices and products to improve efficiency.”

Some ways Brookfield Homes is building more energy efficient homes at Rockrose are:

•  radiant barrier roof sheathing

•  tight ducts with less than 6 percent leakage

•  quality installation of insulation

•  tankless water heaters

•  improved ceiling insulation (per plan)

•  increased insulation of duct work (per plan)

•  and installed furnaces with an annual fuel utilization efficiency of 92 percent (per plan)

Ranging from approximately 2,116 to 3,167 square feet, the four floor plans at Rockrose will have three to four bedrooms and two to 4.5 bathrooms. Pricing is anticipated to start in the low $620,000s.

The Rockrose sales information center is now open at 3642 Glen Ave., in Carlsbad, and builder Brookfield Homes anticipates the first homes to be available for sale soon. A grand opening of three model homes at Rockrose is planned for March 27. For updates as more information becomes available, join the interest list at www.brookfieldsd.com.
